Club hosts donation night in Taneytown

Carroll County Times

During the Taneytown Lions’ annual Donations Night March 27 at the Taneytown fire company activities building, monetary presentations were made to 10 area organizations traditionally supported by the club.

Club President Ken Christopher opened the meeting and greeted the Taneytown Lions, Lion visitors from other clubs, guests and representatives of organizations receiving donations.

Checks were presented with the assistance of Lion EmRoy Gehlsen, chairman of the evening’s activities.

Those receiving donations were: Jim Haines, of the Taneytown fire company and the Taneytown ambulance service; Jenny Gambino, Carroll Hospital Center and Carroll Hospice; Janet Garcia, Literacy Council; Janice Kispert, Rape Crisis Intervention Service; Marcia Anderson, Taneytown Caring and Sharing Ministries; Lisa Albin, The Arc Carroll County; Shirley Haines, Taneytown fire company ladies auxiliary; and Gary Legates and Wayne Wrightson, I C.A.N. Foundation.

Each recipient was given an opportunity to briefly describe his or her organization — who and how they serve or help — and each thanked the Lions for their part in enabling the continuation of these works.

In addition to this meeting being Donations Night, it was designated as a Friendship Night, when members were encouraged to bring a friend. Gehlsen took the opportunity to outline the history and objectives of Lionism. He also elaborated on the “fun things” associated with membership, and outlined the many fundraising projects the club conducts which help make donations, like were made that evening, possible.
